Spring Clean Your Health Series TIP 4: Sunshine, a daily dose of vitamin D

Lady outside in daylight capturing sunshine and rays of vitamin d

Hi Friends,

Welcome to Tip 4 of our Spring Clean Your Health Series — today we’re focusing on Sunshine, a daily dose of vitamin D and the amazing benefits it brings to your body and mind.

A little sunshine each day can go a long way. Vitamin D — often called the “sunshine vitamin” — supports bone strength, muscle function, and immune health, and plays a key role in boosting mood and energy levels. Yet many adults, especially over 50, are low in it.

Here are some simple ways to enjoy the sun safely and get your daily dose of vitamin D:

  1. Catch the morning rays. Exposure to natural morning light helps set your body clock and improves sleep quality.

  2. Aim for balance. Around 10–30 minutes of sun exposure several times a week is enough for most people — less if you have fair skin, more if you have darker skin tones. Always protect your skin if you’ll be out longer.

  3. Pair movement with sunlight. Take your walk, stretch, or workout outdoors. You’ll get fresh air, natural light, and a mental lift all at once.

  4. Consider food and supplements. If you spend limited time outside, include vitamin D-rich foods like eggs, oily fish, and fortified dairy — or ask your GP if a supplement is right for you.

This week, take time to soak up safe sunshine. A little mindful movement in the light can help you feel brighter, stronger, and more connected.

Warmly,

Monique
